Varsity Dance Team

Dance Team began in 1980 when the Music Director needed people to carry the banner during parades. The next year the team performed on the field with the band at home football games. The team also started competing one routine at indoor competitions. In the years that followed, Dance Team continued to perform with the band in field shows and started to add more routines to their indoor competition schedule. They have competed in divisions such as jazz, lyrical, hip hop, novelty, and character dance. Currently, the team competes five routines, all in different styles and team members are given the opportunity to compete solo’s as well. The team also performs in pep rallies, home football game halftimes, parades and seven concerts a year. In 2009 they became National Champions in the small dance category at USA Nationals. The team became National Champions again in 2011 by placing 1st out 21 schools. In 2016 the team placed 2nd in Pom and Contemporary at the Contest of Champions Nationals in Orlando Florida. The talent level continues to rise, and the dancers push themselves to strive for excellence. Numerous alumni have continued their love of dance through teaching while others have gone on to pursue professional dance careers in ballet and modern dance companies. Some have been Charger Girls and United Spirit Association instructors, many have continued competing with their college dance teams, and one even started professional cheerleading for the European Football league. Many have gone on to teach in studios, with a few opening studios of their own. The traditions of the San Pasqual High School Dance Team are strong, and the dedication that team members have is superior. They all have a real passion for dance and friendship. The Varsity Dance Team is currently under the direction of Director Kristi Steinhilber and Coach Madison Lynch

Dance Ensemble

Dance Ensemble began in 2008 when the Dance Director wanted to give more students the opportunity to perform in a variety of venues. The class performs in pep rallies, home football game halftimes, parades and seven concerts a year. This course is designed for the highly motivated, focused, and skilled dance students who want to broaden their technique, creative work, and performance experience. Emphasis will be placed on regular public performances. Students will have the opportunity to work with professional choreographers as well as faculty and select students. Dance Ensemble is a class that meets Physical Education, Fine Art and/or Elective credit. Auditions for the Dance Ensemble are in March.
